Cross Project Pilgrim and find DJ

Finding DJ is only the beginning of the final escape. This Terrible Lizards chapter 4 walkthrough follows the main route through his tooth-fossil request, the outpost lights, the Cavern B key, and the interrupted elevator ride. The crucial detour is Cavern A before Cavern B, because the lift key sits beyond an entrance that needs dynamite.

This main-story route follows FusionZGamer's full-release player experience. It contains ending spoilers. The official Terrible Lizards Steam listing provides the full-game reference.

After the Motherlode transition, continue through the older expedition area and investigate the Project Pilgrim recording. The route combines familiar goo movement with the remains of that expedition.

At the counterweight objective, activate the mechanism to lower the goo and use the resulting traversal route. Continue through the caverns until you hear crying and find DJ. He is alive, but he will not leave before you retrieve something important to him.

Retrieve the tooth fossil and complete the gun interaction

DJ asks for an Allosaurus tooth fossil associated with his mother and their first dig together. Dennis has taken it to his lair. Follow the route into the lair and retrieve the fossil.

The sequence then leads to the objective to find a working gun. Several guns encountered in the recorded player experience do not work, and the search continues through the area until Jordan finds one that does.

Interact with the working gun when you reach it. Its use is part of the story sequence: the recording does not show Jordan keeping it as a freely usable weapon. Continue with the return-to-DJ objective afterward rather than looking for an ongoing shooting or ammunition system.

Bring the tooth fossil back to DJ. Dennis interrupts the reunion, starting another escape. Take the onward traversal route through the chase and continue toward the outpost. Finding the child and returning his fossil do not yet restore access to the surface.

Investigate the lift and restore the special-spectrum lights

At the outpost, inspect the elevator/lift control. It needs a key. Reunite with DJ in the area and continue the conversation before tackling the lighting objective.

Restore power to the special-spectrum lights using their controls around the outpost. Dennis is active during this stage, so move between the required interactions while keeping an escape route available. Complete the lighting controls and then check on DJ.

Fellows's recording explains the missing key. It is a fail-safe: without it, the lift system will not work. He took it away from the lift to Cavern B, intending to prevent the creatures from reaching the surface.

DJ remains at the outpost while Jordan searches. Your next job is the key route, but you need an explosive before you can enter its cavern.

Get dynamite in Cavern A and the lift key in Cavern B

Start with Cavern A. Follow its platforming and goo-bounce route to the dynamite pickup. The release objective explicitly changes to using that dynamite to access Cavern B once you have it.

Return to the blocked Cavern B entrance. Place the explosive at the obstruction and use the detonator to open the route. Then continue through Cavern B until the objective directs you to search the spire for the key.

Climb the spire using the available ledges, poles, and goo-assisted movement. The target is the top, where Jordan finds Dr. Jonathan Fellows and his last-words note. Collect the lift key beside him before leaving.

Dennis interrupts the return route. Escape through the continuing traversal sequence and follow the objective back to the lift. A confrontation on the way does not end the story, so keep returning toward DJ and the lift system.

Start the elevator and complete the final climb

Reunite with DJ and use the key at the lift control. This starts the ascent, but Dennis returns and separates Jordan from the straightforward ride to the surface.

Follow the catch up to the elevator objective. Take the alternate climbing and traversal route, continuing upward through the sequence instead of returning to the lift's original landing. Follow the on-screen objective and timer where shown; the recording does not establish a single fixed total time for the whole finale.

At the last confrontation, complete the kick interaction to break free of Dennis. Jordan and DJ reunite on the ascent. After the lift sequence, there is still a short playable route: follow DJ toward the daylight and continue outside to Stella's car.

That surface reunion completes the main-story escape described here. It is not a promise of all collectibles or an alternate ending route.

FAQ

What does DJ want before he will leave?

He asks Jordan to recover an Allosaurus tooth fossil that Dennis took to his lair. It is connected to DJ's memory of visiting a dig with his mother.

Where is the lift key in Chapter 4?

At the top of the spire in Cavern B, beside Fellows and his last-words note. Get dynamite from Cavern A first and use it to open Cavern B.

Does the working gun unlock combat?

The release player experience shows a scripted gun interaction, followed by the objective to return to DJ. It does not establish a weapon that Jordan carries around and freely fires afterward.

What do I do when the elevator escape goes wrong?

Follow the catch up to the elevator objective through the alternate traversal route. Complete the final kick interaction, then continue with DJ to the surface and Stella.
